The founder of the company Willi Kotte, born 1906, established a mechanical workshop in 1933 after studying in Darmstadt. No shortage of water turbines for corn mills were repaired there in Spessart. These services were then later extended to agricultural machinery as well.

At the same time, Willi Kotte developed and patented the first functional ballpoint pen refills. Ballpoint pen refills were produced in large numbers for several years. A further production branch comprised luminaires for the aviation industry. The production of textile machine accessories was a further pillar of the company. The production facilities were distributed over two locations: Schippach in Spessart and Hirschberg (now in Poland).

After the war, the company Kotte almost exclusively devoted itself to supplying the textile machine industry and its customers - initially with only a handful of employees.

After 1960, the second generation oversaw an expansion to around 200 employees, with an accompanying extension of the production facilities being necessary as well. The main pillar was no longer just textile machines - thanks to the introduction of new technologies (for example plasma coating), further customers could now be won in numerous other sectors of industry.

The third generation has been supporting the company since 1998 with the aim of continuing this success.

"We purchased 1842 color maps of the Bocholt/Barlo area when we were at the Kreis Borken government offices in the city (Stadt) of Borken. They are 1:25000 scale maps entitled, "Ausgenomen und gezeichuet im Jahre 1842 von, von Voss Lieutenant im Garde Res: Ldw. Rgmt. We have maps "4105 Bocholt" which includes Bocholt and Werth to the west; "4106 Rhede" the area directly east of map "4105 Bocholt" which includes Rhede and Krechting and a fair distance to the east and north of these towns; and "4006 Oeding" which is comprised of a narrow strip of land along the Dutch border directly north of map " "4106 Rhede" including Burlo and Oeding. The map is blank for Holland. I think these maps were made for military purposes. These maps are kept in my folder called "Eiting, Maps". Also in this folder are high resolution current maps of the Bocholt Germany, and Lichtenvoorde Holland areas. The 1842 maps show the following: There were no farm buildings where Sylvia Eiting and her husband MOLDER and children now live, but it shows the Kotteman farm (listed as Büdding on current maps) 0.3 mile to the northeast and a Benkmann (listed as tünte on current maps) 0.1 mile to the southwest. Kotteman may be the Kotte farm referred to in so many of the records. It also shows a Döing farm (shown on current maps, without a family name indicated, on the northwest corner of the intersection of Barloer Ringstr. and Kotts Stegge) 0.7 mile south southwest of the Kotteman farm (this is not the location we thought was the Döing farm when we were there in 2000). 0.4 mile north northeast of the Kotteman farm is a farm listed as Eiting on both current and the 1842 maps (on current maps, the area immediately to the east of this farm is labeled "Eitinghook"). When we were in the area in 2000, nobody appeared to be home at this Eiting farm, so we talked to the neighbor to the east. He referred us to another farm in the area as being a better Eiting contact. We interpreted what he said as meaning the Sylvia Eiting Molder farm, but we could have been wrong; because, on the 1842 map there is another Eiting farm (listed as Klump farm on current maps) 0.5 miles to the north northwest of the Kotteman farm. Both of these latter two Eiting farms are 0.6 miles from the Dutch border. Current maps show an "Euting" farm (listed as Höltkamp on current maps) 1.1 miles east of Kotteman farm and only 0.1 miles from the Dutch border near Winterswijk. On both the 1842 and current maps is listed another Euting farm 2.4 miles west southwest of Barlo. On the 1842 map it is listed as two farms: Gross Euting and Klein Euting (big Euting and small Euting). For reference, Barlo is 3.9 miles northeast of the center of Bocholt. All around this area, are listed on the 1842 map, the names of families that we know intermarried with the Eiting's. For example: Essing, Epping, Übbing, Döing, Elting, Kamp, Schmeing, Wissing, Budding, etc. The Hemden Kreuz Kapelle was 2.9 miles west northwest of Barlo. In times before the church was built in Barlow (in 1823), and it appears even in 1842, the main part of Barlo was located about 0.7 miles south southwest of its current center at a location called (then and now) House Diepenbroeck, which appears to be a large manor or estate house. I write all this to give the reader a feel of the distances and the locations of the farms and villages, and to note that the Eiting family likely had more than one farm -- so sorting out who lived where and when, may get a little complicated, even though the land, population, and other records probably still exist to allow someone to do this if anybody is so inclined. :)
